Lake Placid celebrates Olympic Day with friendship bracelet activity

Jun 24, 2025Jun 24, 2025

Lake Placid is home to multiple Winter Olympic Games, and on Monday, the village took part in a global celebration honoring the founding of the modern Olympics.

Every year on June 23, people from around the world participate in Olympic Day. In Lake Placid, it was a good excuse to honor the village's deep Olympic spirit.

One of the activities visitors could participate in on Monday was making friendship bracelets.

The activity sought to teach folks three pillars of Olympism - friendship, excellence and respect. Visitors got to make their own bracelets at the Lake Placid Olympic Center, which included both personal messages and Olympic pride.

"At this activity, we highlight friendship, and we teach visitors about respect, excellence, and Lake Placid’s Olympic legacy,” said Courtney Bastian, Museum Director at the Lake Placid Olympic Museum

One visitor from Connecticut said she is excited to have a new souvenir that will help her remember her time in the region.

"It's so special and everyone took their time to create something different to memorialize the day," said Julia DeSimone.

This is the second year in a row that organizers have held the Olympic friendship bracelet activity. You can see a full list of all the summer programs at the Olympic museum here.
